About the Founders of Horse of Mine.

In 2003 Heather Carder & Gregg Lanza purchased a retired Thoroughbred farm and developed what is now known as Wildwood Farm, on beautiful Whidbey Island, Washington. It is a lush and serene location that covers 80 acres and is the perfect location to raise young horses. The property features a Bed & Breakfast plus all of the horse amenities you can imagine such as 165 stalls for horses, 3 arenas, a 3/4 mile training track and 25 acres of wooded trails. This is the perfect place to come and spend time with your horse.

Once Wildwood Farm was up and running Heather & Gregg opened Noble Horse Saddlery at the Farm with the assistance of Stubben, to provide a North American Showroom for all of the Stubben products. In 2007 they expanded their retail reach to include Noble Horse Gallery, located in downtown Seattle, Pioneer Square. The store caters to the Equestrian lifestyle and offers gifts, apparel, art and collectibles.

And finally, the vision of Online Horse Ownership utilizing their own horses at the farm was born upon the realization that financial considerations and location were often barriers to children that love horses. Our Virtual Ownership concept was developed to that any child can own and view his/her real horse and stay connected with them over time and through cyber-space; through the internet's capability of community and live video streaming.

Decolores, barn name: Shadow (broodmare)
Breed; Thoroughbred
Born: 2/26/1998
Color: Gray
Height: 16.1H
Sire: High Comedy
Dam: Gold Sprint

Shadow was gifted to Wildwood Farm in 2004 and has been one of our best brood mares since. When she was young she was a race horse, but had to retire due to a breathing problem. She is a very good mother and was bred last year to a thoroughbred stallion, Private Gold, and BerBerry was born on 4/11/2010. Shadow did not like her name, Decolores, so we gave her a name she really likes to be called, Shadow! She also likes to be told she is beautiful, so we tell her that a lot. She is the mother of Spyder and Virgil, and is registered with the Jockey Club and American Warmblood Society.  Shadow had her baby - a colt! Now we are having a "name that baby horse" contest - enter your name idea now and win a free online horse with HorseofMine!

sBerBerry, barn name: No Name (Colt) - help us find one!
Breed; Thoroughbred
Born: 4/11/2010
Color: Bay
Height: None right now; he's just a baby
Sire: Private Gold
Dam: Declores

BerBerry is a very laid back baby - he waited  2 hours to get up and have his first drink of milk, but it was not for lack of strength as this boy is a powerhouse weighing in at 145 lbs. He talks with his mother a lot, and once he is standing up he doesn't want to lay back down and falls asleep leaning against her. He is very curious about people and will walk up to you with no problem, but this is not unusual for a new born. Once he gets a few days older he will bond more fully with his mother and people will not be as fascinating. He is wearing his baby halter already and we will practice taking this on and off of him so he is really used to it and has no concerns with people touching his face, ears and nose.

sLuna Rainbow, Barn name: Luna
Breed; Thoroughbred
Born: 3/9/2001
Color: Liver Chestnut
Height: 16.0H
Sire: Son of Briartic
Dam: Honorable Moon

Luna was gifted to Wildwood Farm in 2005, and is one of the sweetest, gentlest mares we have. She was a race horse when she was 2 and 3, then she came to live with us and is a very good mother. She will be bred this year to a yet-to-be chosen warmblood stallion, and is mother to Putter and Foxy. Luna has a habit called Cribbing or Wind Sucking, where they grab onto something like a feeder or fence rail and suck in wind. This is a habit that many sensitive horses get when they are under high stress situations, such as being a race horse. Often times horses that have this habit suffer from ulcers and this action actually releases endorphins that give them a sort of “high”.  Once a horse has this habit it is next to impossible to break, even when the stress is taken out of their lives. Luna does not pass this onto her offspring, and we allow her this vice because she is perfect in every other way! She is registered with the Jockey Club and the American Warmblood Society.

sAlexandria, Barn name: Alex
Breed; Appendix B Welsh Pony
Born:  5/1/1997
Color: Gray
Height: 13.1H
Sire & Dam unknown

Alex was purchased at a horse auction in 2002; she was very lame as we later found out she had foundered, but was being ridden by a 200lb cowboy. When we bought her the former owners did not tell us her name, so we asked Gregg’s daughter, Giuliani, to name her and she chose Alexandria.  Alex had an abusive past before we found her and has suffered a low-back injury that makes her unrideable. She also has a metabolic disorder, similar to diabetes in humans, and is on a special diet with limited sugars and carbohydrates to assure she stays healthy and sound. Alex is the most amazing, loving mare and is part of our Broodmare band – she is Chip’s mother! We will be breeding Alex to a lovely Welsh Stallion this spring; she does not have registration papers.

sHopefilly, Barn name: Hope (mare)
Breed: Thoroughbred
Born: 3/1/2003
Color: Dark Bay
Height: 15.2H
Sire: Unknown
Dam: Unknown

Hope was purchased at a horse sale when she was 3 years old. Not a lot is known about her, other than she was raced as she does have a lip tattoo and that she appears to have been in a pretty harsh crash, most likely a summersault. When we brought her home we saw that her front teeth were missing (luckily they were her baby teeth) and that her adult teeth had been pushed back into her gums; her wither was broken and her shoulder was damaged; and her left knee had bone chips near the joint. Though she is a bit broken, Hope is an amazing mare and full of spunk and determination. Now no one would know of her hurtful past, she is a very happy and is one of Wildwood farm's broodmares. Her first son is Nacho and we have plans to breed her to a Hunter stallion this year (2010). Who she really is, is turning out to be quite a mystery, but we are working on deciphering her lip tattoo to find her true name and legacy.
